Introduction
This training and professional development programme equips African chemists with entrepreneurship and innovation skills, supporting the translation of research into real-world impact. The programme is open to chemists at all career stages—from undergraduate level through to professorship—with a maximum of 20 participants per cohort. Participants may range from complete beginners to those with advanced entrepreneurial experience, ensuring broad inclusion across the chemical sciences community.The programme runs for six weeks (February–March 2026) and consists of one 3-hour virtual session per week.
Masterclasses
The six-week programme combines virtual masterclasses, case studies, mentorship, and follow-up support. Sessions will focus on:- Starting and running a science-based venture
- Innovation and commercialisation strategies
- Business development, partnerships, and funding
- Networking, marketing, and communication
- Leadership and management skills
- Science policy, advocacy, and engagement

Application criteria
1. Open to African scientists based on the continent and in the diaspora: Applicants must identify as African scientists and may be located either within Africa or abroad.2. Education and Career Stage: Open to applicants who are actively studying or working in academia, from undergraduate level through to professorship, including those involved in teaching, research, or academic leadership roles.
3. Entrepreneurship / Innovation Readiness: Applicants should have early-stage or late-stage ideas for entrepreneurship, innovation, or translating research into real-world applications, with a clear benefit to the African market/context.
4. Time Commitment: Applicants must be able to commit up to 3 hours per week, including participation in a 2.5-hour live session for the full 6-week programme.
5. Motivation and Impact Potential: Applicants should demonstrate:
- A clear interest in innovation, commercialisation, or leadership in chemistry
- Willingness to engage in collaboration and mentorship
- Potential to apply learning toward impact in Africa’s science, policy, or entrepreneurship ecosystem
