On submission, please mention in the ‘Comments to the Editor’ section that this submission is an “Open Call contribution to the Advanced Materials/Biomaterials and their Applications themed collection.”

Materials have always shaped the trajectory of human civilisation—from the Iron Age to the present Silicon Age. Today, we stand at the threshold of a new era where conventional advanced materials and nanomaterials converge to unlock unprecedented applications across energy, healthcare, environment, catalysis, computation, and beyond.

This themed collection will showcase high-impact research addressing frontier advances in advanced materials, biomaterials, bio-nanomaterials, and their synergistic applications, with emphasis on interdisciplinary innovation, sustainable solutions, and the integration of theory, computation, and AI/ML methodologies.

The primary aim of this themed collection is to facilitate an international platform for high-quality research contributions that advance our understanding and application of novel materials, in particular materials of biological origin.
